Lovable alternatives: an honest comparison for 2026

Comparing Lovable with Bolt, Replit, v0, no-code tools and Plannify: who each AI app builder suits, how pricing works, code ownership and the trade-offs.

Why do people look for a Lovable alternative?

Lovable has done a lot to show that anyone can build a web app by describing it. Its strengths are real: a clean chat-and-preview editor, good-looking default designs, Supabase for databases and logins, GitHub sync so the code is yours, and quick publishing.

The reasons people look elsewhere tend to be the same few:

  • Credits: paid plans give you a monthly allowance of messages or credits, and complex projects can burn through them while fixing errors.
  • Web first: it builds web apps; native iPhone and Android apps aren’t its main focus.
  • Fixed AI: you can’t pick the model or run it on your own machine.
  • Cloud only: the project lives on the platform, which some businesses would rather avoid.
  • Specific needs: business software with roles and automations, an online shop, or a mobile app for the stores.

None of these make Lovable a bad choice. They just mean it fits some projects better than others.

What are the main alternatives, and who are they for?

  • Bolt (bolt.new): very similar idea, from StackBlitz. Runs a full development environment in the browser, supports several frameworks and, through Expo, mobile apps. Pricing is token-based.
  • Replit: a full cloud development platform with an AI agent. Strong for people who want to look under the bonnet, run back-end code and deploy on Replit’s hosting. Usage-based pricing on top of plans.
  • v0 by Vercel: excellent at generating interfaces and React components, deploying to Vercel. Great for designers and developers; less of a complete “business app” builder.
  • No-code builders (Bubble, Glide, Adalo, FlutterFlow, Softr): visual tools with years of maturity. More predictable, more manual, and often harder to leave.
  • Developer tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot): AI that works inside a code editor. The most powerful option if you can read code; not designed for people who can’t.
  • Plannify: a team of AI agents on your computer that builds apps, websites, shops and business software, free with the AI you choose.

How should you compare AI app builders fairly?

Feature lists all look alike. Instead, take one small, real idea (“a booking page for my dog-grooming van with three services and a calendar”) and build it in two or three tools. Then ask:

  1. How close was the first version? Did it understand the idea, or did it build something generic?
  2. How did it handle a change? Ask for something specific and see whether it breaks something else.
  3. What happens when it gets stuck? Does it fix its own errors, or loop and spend your credits?
  4. Can you take the code away? GitHub export, a download, or nothing?
  5. What does going live involve, and what will it cost each month?
  6. Where does your data live?

What happens when your app needs to go live?

Building is the fun part; going live is where the tools differ most. Before you choose, find out:

  • Where it’s hosted: on the builder’s own platform, on a provider such as Vercel or Netlify, or on a server of your own.
  • What a custom domain costs: some tools include it only on paid plans.
  • Where the data lives: for UK businesses handling customer data, it’s worth knowing the country and the provider.
  • What happens if you stop paying: does the app go offline, and can you take the code and data elsewhere?
  • Who helps when something breaks: community forums, email support or a person you can talk to.

For a hobby project, a free subdomain is fine. For a business app that customers rely on, your own domain, a clear exit route and someone to call matter more than any single feature.

How is Plannify different from Lovable?

Plannify comes at the same goal from a different direction. The main differences, stated as plainly as possible:

  • You choose the AI. A free model running on your own computer, in the browser or with Ollama, or your own API key from OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI and others. There are no Plannify credits: building is free, and with a paid key you pay the provider directly.
  • A team, not a single assistant. Agents with different roles (architect, designers, developers, a tester) divide the work, review it and test each piece before showing you. You watch them work.
  • More than web apps. Real iPhone and Android apps with React and Capacitor, websites, online shops with checkout, and business software with records, a diary, roles and automations.
  • On your computer. The project stays on your machine, encrypted. The code is yours.
  • People for the paid part. Putting it online on a real server with your domain, store publishing and support are services the Plannify team does on request.

Where might Lovable or others suit you better?

To be fair, there are cases where Plannify isn’t the best fit:

  • You want everything in the cloud and don’t want your computer involved. With Plannify, your computer must stay on while the team builds.
  • You want one-click self-service publishing at any hour. With Plannify, going live on a server is a service done by the team.
  • You don’t have a capable computer or an API key. Free local models on a modest laptop are slower and best for small and medium projects.
  • You need a large, mature community of templates and tutorials. Lovable, Bolt and Replit have been around longer.

Plenty of people use more than one tool: one to sketch an interface quickly, another to build the real thing.

Frequently asked questions

Plannify is free to build with if you use a free AI model on your own computer. Several other builders have free tiers with limited daily or monthly usage. Try the same small project in each to compare.
